Time to fire up your Pits.
The Fajita Cookoff at PalmFest is scheduled for Oct. 1-2 at the McAllen Convention Center on the Expressway & Ware Rd. in McAllen.
This year’s competition will continue to celebrate the vibrant history of South Texas. All cooking categories are truly indigenous of this community and culture. Research proves the birthplace of the Fajita is The Rio Grande Valley.
We’ve added one additional cooking category this year, Mollejas, on Saturday.

On Saturday March 5 of this year, thousands of people came to Municipal Park to celebrate the City of McAllen’s first “Employee Appreciation Day”. Along with games & activities, live entertainment and food & beverage, there was a cooking competition with 5 categories. Nineteen City Department Cooking teams competed for the best in fajitas, salsa, charro beans, pan de campo and mollejas.

The cooking team of RC Truck Brokerage of Pharr is the first official entry into this year’s RGV Cook-Off at PalmFest. It’s Official !! RGV Cookoff, organizational entity, that owns The Fajita Cookoff and The BBQ Cookoff, has been declared a Texas State BBQ Championship Competition.
Smokin’ since 1976, this year marks a new milestone for the RGV Cookoff at PalmFest in McAllen. First of all, we have been proclaimed a “State Championship Cookoff by the
