First Fajita Cook Off Entry
McAllen , TX – The first official entry in The Fajita Cook Off this year is the cooking team of Big D’s BBQ sponsored by JC’s Meat Market of San Juan. Danny Luera, head cook of the team, has participated in the Cook Off in prior years and is very active in the International Barbeque Cookers Association sanctioned events throughout the state.
This year The Fajita Cook Off, as part of PalmFest International Folklife Celebration scheduled for October 6-7 at the new McAllen Convention Center, will be two days of competition. The first day will be sanctioned by the IBCA and will include brisket, pork spare ribs and ½ chicken. There will also be a Grand Champion winner on that day. The second day will be two categories of fajita only – traditional and gourmet.
75% of all entry fees will be paid out as prize money in the five categories over the two days. This represents almost $20,000 in cash if 75 teams enter the Cook Off for both days.
